Alarm Issue After Battery Change

Had orginally posted this in the truck/year section and one iof the senior members thought this was a better location for my question. If anyone out there has a suggestions or information on this alarm system I would greatly appreciate the help.

Hi, new to the forum and was hoping someone might have some experience with Ford Security Systems. I have a 1999 F-150 lariat 4x4, great truck, just had a few minor problems needing reapir. I removed the instrument cluster and radion to repair displays that were out and disconnected the battery. Fixes on displays worked out great after battery was reconnected, but now my security system if giving me fits. I have the stock Ford system with keyless entry and it has a dealer add on of a siren, valet button and red led on dash. Every time I open the door locked or unlocked the siren goes off and the only way i can stop it is to cycle the key (will not start) and push the valet button. It is fine until I shut off the car, about 30 seconds later if I open the door starts all over again.

Anyone know of any possible fixes, can I remove the system withoout loosing keyless entry or rendering the vehicle inoperable? Appreciate any help you can provide and thanks for a great forum

Bit confused.

Is the VSS ( Vehicle Security System ) a Ford Gold system ?

You mention the stock Ford system with keyless entry, which does not have an alarm part to it ( RKE only ).

The dealer add on was a complete VSS system of some kind ( which includes more than just a siren, valet button and red led on dash ).

I got the truck used so I am assuming the dealer added it on, I could be off base. As I crawled under the dash for a quick look I could see the black module with Ford Security System on one side and a schematic on the other. I also could see some of the wires such as the valet switch spliced into the wiring harness for the black module. Should I find another module for the siren, LED and Valet switch that was added? If so can I remove it without eliminating the orginal equipment and remote door locks? There must be a starter interupt feature of some sort incorporated. Just a noter by FOB opens and closes the doors just fine, however if I physically open the door the siren goes off. Thanks for the help and any advice you can provide

the description of the text sounds like the Ford Gold VSS system

You are following the Emergency Disarm procedure, with the key turn to on, and press the program button ( not a valet button ). This is what happens when you loose the fob. Does the fob need a new battery ?

When you disarm the system, does the horn chirp n number of times ?

If so, the truck thinks there was an attempted theft

1 chirp = Interior theft
2 chirps = Entry door
3 chirps = hood
4 chirps = exterior snsor
5 chirps = Ign was turned on

Trying to read if there is a procedure for changing the truck's battery. Need a bit of time.
