Optima Battery

So I went out this morning to start my truck and no luck. My factory battery was dead. While I have never seen a Motorcraft battery live less than 5 years this one simply couldn't keep up anymore. Twin 255lph fuel pumps with twin FPDM's driving them, an intercooler pump, amp, and 2010 F-150 electric fans proved to be to much for it. So I installed an Optima D34/78-950. I got it through Advance Auto and used an online code to get 20% off. Very impressed with it and I love having dual post. Now all the extras are wired up and hidden in the factory battery cover while the postive and negative cables remain on top giving me a clean look.

The Yellow one. I'll snap a pic tommorow if I get in before dark. I would have eliminated the stock battery cover but thats where the module for the fans and terminal block for FPDM's are mounted. And it hid all the wires going to the side post for the extra electrical. All in all it turned out nice.

excuse my ignorance as i know a quick search will have results, but whats the main difference between the yellow and red optima. i want to purchase one, and i thought it needed a red one from what i've seen. did you use yellow because they put out more to support all your mods or what? all i really have is hids and a system that would stress the battery as the rest of my lights are leds. which one should i get? lol

Once a good battery, the reason you read bad things about Optima (and they are true) is because Johnson Controls bought 'em a while back, and most of what JC builds are very mediocre at best. Sad that they have bought up most of the battery manufacturers in the U.S. rather than someone who actually build high quality, but that's the way things are today. Buy up all your competitors and build crap, what choice will they (the customer) have, build their own battery?

I've read that the Die Hard Platinum is built by Enersys, the same company that makes Odyssey Batteries, and that they far exceed the Optima batteries in performance and quality. I'm not sure if this is true.

Ok, I just confirmed from another site:

The Odyssey, Diehard Platinum, Stinger and a few others are manufactured by EnerSys inc. Case color and lables are specified by seller by EnerSys prior to shipment. And are all acid starved sealed units the same technology is used in batteries for military subs, hummves', and abrams m1 tanks

I used the yellow top for the power to help support the mods. I'm hoping the Optima will hold up and do its job. It has a three year free replacement. If it starts acting up in that time I will be sure to kill it and get a new one.

Was back in your neck of the woods for 3 weeks at Christmas- Hendersonville actually. My wife's sister and BIL live there. From Cal., it's the 1st time I've had a white Christmas in MANY years.

It was our first white Christmas in many years too! I grew up in the north, where the snow would stick around for weeks after a big storm. I like when it snows here in Nashville, because it all melts within a day or two.
