Charging System Warning?
Charging System Warning?
My truck was sluggish to start this morning and it was roughly 35 degrees. The charging system warning popped up and went away, on my way to work the windshield wipers were slow as well as the windows. Right when I was coasting to a stop in the parking lot there was a pop noise by the front driver side tire and my e-brake and abs light popped on and the radio cut out???? The battery in it is only a year old, so I wouldnt think it was that. The brake pads in the front are a year old too. Any ideas anyone?
Get a digital multimeter ($15-50) and test voltage across the battery posts; with the key & everything else OFF, with the engine idling, and again with the engine at 2KRPM.
The "correct" numbers are ~12.6, ~14.4, ~14.6 . If the key-off voltage is low, charge the battery for a few hours @2-10A, then load it (with the headlights for ~1min) & retest.
