Bit of attention paid to the complete post, and you will see it is not the shouting version of cap, notice the title, the caps lock was on. Look Close :
fACTORY STEREO LIGHTS.

To answer your questions, the illumination is part of the remaining instrumentation illumination. Does the HVAC illumination still work ?

Have not seen it yet myself, but the 97-03 MY had an issue where the radio would loose the display, but the power to it on the back of the unit was fine.

Think it was cold solder joint in the case for the 97-03 MYs.

When you turn on the parking lamps, do the buttons illuminate ?

no bud I think i found the fuse # 5 it was fine I think it must be a loose wire or bad connection behind the stereo. it doesnt light up when the lights ar on either. I guess I need to replace the stereo.

2005 Owners Manual, 5th printing page 226, fuse F5 shows as a 7.5A for Keep alive memory for Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and climate control module.

Fuse 7 is a 5A fuse for Radio (start signal)
Fuse 31 is a 20A fuse for Radio power.

No other matches for radio in the 2005 OM 5th printing in PDF format.

Are you counting from Fuse #42 or from the side that Fuse #41 is on.
5th fuse from Fuse #41 is fuse #7.
