Red face Door Ajar

I bought a used 97 F150. It was in a minor wreck. The drivers side door will sometimes show ajar. I have noticed if it is raining outside it does not show up. Can anyone please help????

I am new to this forum and have spent about 2 hours reading and looking at the trucks! I love 'em!

If you go back through the old threads on this site, you will see this is a very big problem with most all of us here. I am very irratated with it. But what I did that helped was to spray carb cleaner in the door jam where the arm comes out. This didn't work right away but after about two or three days it has worked since.
Some people here say to use WD-40, and that ok too, but I don't like to think of all that oily residue stuck in my door waiting for more dirty to collect.
just my .02
Hope this helps. If you use Carb cleaner make sure you use a lot. It evaporates anyway so I wouldn't worry about ill affects.

Had the problem, did the WD-40 fix about 6 months ago, and no problems since... Good luck!

Try replacing the generic electronic module (GEM) this should take care of the problem.

Interesting facts: majority of door ajar gripes are posted by XLT owners and not XL 2WD. I have 98 SC F-150 XLT 4x4, low miles, always garaged. The passenger door is rarely used but causes prolonged door ajar light just as much as driver's door. My brother inlaw has 98 SC F150 XL 2WD with 100K, no garage, 5 member family (pass door exercised regularly) and he has never had the door ajr light gripe. The door switches are the same for both XL and XLT. However, the electronic circuitry is different...XLT's have the GEM and XL's (2WD) have central timer. I disagree with theory about dirt collection in switch body and corresponding WD-40 remedy, but that's just my opinion.

Go to radio shack and buy a can of TV Tuner Control Cleaner and Lubricant. Spray the swith on the door and problem goes away.
