Tachometer connections on V6 models
I have a '98 XL, supercab, V6, 5 speed,
that I would like to connect a tachometer to.
I understand that I need to pick up a wire that comes off from the control module.
#48 on the connector , which is a 104 pin connector. It should be a white wire with a pink tracer.
I would like to know if anyone has attemted
this or not, and if so, is this the correct wire, and how well does it work.
Any info would be appreciated.
thanks

Hey, Nice to see someone local on here. I am thinking about adding a tach myself and have been looking into the matter. On autometers web site they have some info that may help you. BTW where are you mounting the tach and where did you get it??

Yes, this is the correct wire! I have a 2000 F-150. I located mine at the computer as well as behind the instrument panel. I was locating mine for a speed control. The speed control I had ordered said to connect to this wire (white, Pink) it had resistance and seemed that it would work for the speed control. It did not, I had my father put a scope on the wire, the signal was trashy and not very clean. So we went to our other option and connected the spc to the wire coming off the coil. My dad suggested when I decide to put a tach in to use that wire as well. The signal was strong and very clean. Just thought this might help.
Trexxx94,
Please help me out!!!
First of all, what kind of tach do you have? I just got an autogage by autometer and they told me on the 2000's, that ford's ignition wasn't compatible with any of their RPM devices. The tech emailed me and said I had to either return it, or wait till late spring because they were coming out with an adapter for ford's. I don't wanna wait. What kind of trim(xl,xlt, lariat, etc.) is your truck? Thanks bud!

Does anyone know how to hook up a tach to a 2000??? The tech at autometer emailed me again saying that the adapter for the 99+ fords coming out in spring 01, is only going to be available for v8's(i own a v6). Maybe another brand? Anything?
Hi RMDAVE,
I have a 99 F150 XL V6 and had my dash apart looking for that same wire but didn't want to splice into it, fearing I might have the wrong one and damage something! Wanted to wait for more info. Did you get your tach installed yet? If so, what wire did you end using, because I recall not finding the correct color wire on that pin number.
