My new body style 04 fx4 started to act up when starting lastnight. It started to act like the battery was getting weak, started, the gauges kind of spazzed like there was a short for a few seconds. I popped over to a friends house to check it out, and after shutting it off, it now won't crank over at all.

The battery is good, tested. The starter is good (Though the braided line's ring terminal was broke. Pulled starter, fixed, tested, installed and does the something). The relay is clicking and the HL's don't dim when turning the ign switch. Tried to start in neutral or park. Everything works, as far as I can tell.... it just won't crank at all. Original key, doubt its a PATS issue. No blown fuses in pass side footwell fuse panel.

I will be going over better equipped to troubleshoot tonight with tools and multi-tester. anything else I would try or test? Inline fuses?

 

Tonight I found the starter relay was bad after all, which likely fried when the armature in the starter seized. Replaced the starter and the relay, now it's perfectly fine.
