Interior Light - Off On Demand?
Interior Light - Off On Demand?
I have (and love) a 2000 F-150 4x4 Lariat Flairside and it's my first Ford... I have SEEN the light! As a matter of fact, I see the damn light at times when I DON'T WANT TO SEE IT!
I occasionally want to leave my doors open, listen to the radio, and have the interior light OFF. Sometimes I might need to just stand next to my truck in the dark for a minute.
In my "brand D" trucks it could be switched off with the light switch. I know that the light will go out in 20 or so minutes, but this only works if the key is not on... so if the radio is on the light STAYS ON.
I can pull fuse #14 to turn it off, or I could pull relay #1 to get it turned off. The NICE solution would be to put a switch in the wire to the relay trigger circuit, but I can't get at the back of the fuse block so I don't know what wire to trace/switch or where to get access to it. Can anyone help me fix this SMALL flaw in an otherwise GREAT truck? Thanks!

Hey MonsterFisherman,
If you would be motivated enough to install a switch, how about putting one on the actual dome light housing assembly? That is where I will be putting mine. I have a 97 F150 and the only way to have the doors open without the light on is to manually engage my door latches with a screwdriver. I am tired of this temporary solution and will be making a trip to a junkyard soon to get some nice factory Ford switches.

Hey CigarXTC - The problem with that solution is that the door lights and the cargo light would stay on. Turning the cargo light off and on independently is ANOTHER thing I'd like to figure out. I also want to tie into the interior light circuit for some underbody lights by the doors for "porch lights" like the Expys have.
