odometer backlight questions

So I've been reading on here about the LCD odometer backlight and how to replace it. My truck is a 2006 with 44,000 miles and the backlight no longer works at night. Before I pulled the dash out to replace the light I wanted to ask a question of you guys. Should the backlight be on during the day? The backlight is on if the lights are off.

I found this by driving at dusk. I noticed before my lights came on automatically that my odometer was lit up, but as soon as the lights came on I could no longer read my odometer. Is this normal behavior? If it is does this confirm I have a light burnt out?

Thanks!

If I remember correctly the light is on full power during the day just like the radio display and when the headlights are switched on the odometer display dims with the radio as well.

When my odometer backlight went out I thought it looked darker during the day and completely unreadable at night. When I replaced the bulb it was back to normal.

Hope that answered your question.

Just got done playing with it and it appears I'm having the intermittant issue documented on here. It worked normally tonight. I tried all differnet kinds of things to get the odometer light to cut off, but I was unable to. It came on when the door opened and went off when I closed the door. With the engine running it was brighter when I turned the lights off, and dimmed and stayed on whether the lights were set to auto or parking, or on. I'm not sure how brave I am to try to re-solder on the motherboard.

It sucks cause I've only had the truck a week and a half and since I didn't buy the extended warranty from the dealer I'm going to have to foot the bill. The good thing is it shouldn't cost 2500 bucks to fix it, which is what the warranty would of cost me.

I bought a bulb for it, but it wont be in until tomorrow. I'm thinking about going ahead replacing the bulb, making sure all the connections are tight to the cluster.

Thanks for the reply RB
