Angry same electrical problem..little worse

i have a 1998 f-250 ld 5.4 ext cab. my truck has 85,000 miles but it's in very good shape and i take good care of it. i have the similar problems as ripper-joe's topic accept a little worse. i'm opening this subject again hoping to get some more feedback from jefflaws and the other people that have since had their trucks repaired for similar probs.
i live in southern california where it doesn't rain that often...however when it does i'm screwed. the electrical prob starts with the clicking under the drivers dash, the air bag light comes on, the speedometer stops working, the windshield wipers start and stop, the transmission shifts erratic, then it will shift out of drive and will not go until i shift into neutral and back a few times(sometimes i have to pull over on the highway because it will not go). once i get where i'm going and turn off the truck the radio stays on and the headlamp warning bell stays on. once the truck sets over night(in the garage) most of the problems are gone accept the air bag light stays on. i've check for water leaks around the main computer and the area under the drivers side dash(i actually had someone hold a water hose over the areas while checking)- no sign of leaks. if i relpace the GEM- will it happen again? i noticed in the chiltons wiring diagrams that there's more than one GEM- unless i'm looking at it wrong. can someone lead me in the right direction - i'm getting ready to trade it in on another brand of truck. i grew up with trucks and they make you feel more secure in nasty conditions...this situation could leave me or my family stranded...not a secure feeling.
thanks
danny
