Question Plug In DRLs, Has Anyone Seen Socket

I have read numerous threads on DRLs and a socket with a dummy plug behind the drivers headlight area. I too bought the module but didn't know it was that extensive when installing it. I took one look under the dash, seen what amounted to the amount of taped over wires you'd expect to see at Ma-bells switching station and down right chickened out.

I have a 99 Expy with autolamps and was wondering has anybody seen this connector behind the headlight on a 99 F150, Expy, F250 whatever.

Thanks in advance---Bob

I've seen it on the old style trucks. And on a 97 f-150, I believe you can see it if you pop the plastic pins out of and remove the radiator to grill black plastic cover that is horizontal up top. You know, the big tool rest! Then you can look down behind the grill in the side area that is boxed off from air flow and see it, next to the crash sensor on that side. Unless they moved it in the 99 year?

Locations, etc are on my web page. I also chickened out when I saw the "kit" from Ford. I'm looking for the direct plug in module. Here is my web site for my search for the plug in DRL Relay Block. http://www.voicenet.com/~storm/drl

Cool

Here is the update on the DRLs. I have a 2001 Screw and installed the DRLs today. I ordered the relay block and the resistor. I simply plugged the two items in. It was very easy and I did not have to splice into my wire harness. Use Storm's web site above (http://www.voicenet.com/~storm/drl) and order the following part numbers. The part numbers have recently changed and here are the new ones.
XL3Z-14A601-AA CNTR & BRKT AS
YL1Z-13B218-AA WIR ASY-HD/LP
Good luck.

I purchased the relay block and the resistor. Installing the relay block was no problem. But like ExpyBob, I cannot find the resistor plug on my 2000 Expedition. It does not seem to be anywhere on the left side of the vehicle behind the headlight. Storm's diagram of the F150 doesn't look like the area under the Expy. Does anyone know where the resistor is located on the Expy?

On the 2000 Expy, I found two wires behind the driver's side headlight. They are heavy gauge, attached to the chassis by means of a metal ring. One is black, the other is green with a yellow stripe. If this is the connector for the DRL resistor, there is no plug. I disconnected these wires from the chassis; it made the engine idle rough, so I'm not sure what they are. In addition, I cannot find the primary crash sensor behind the bumper on the Expy; according to the service manual, the wire harness for it should run near the connection for the DRL resistor.

I checked the shop manual for your year and model and it should be located in the same area as on my truck. Check out this link and let me know if it helps you:
