Question Strange Electrical Problems on '97 250 LD Lariat

My '97 F-250 Light Duty Lariat is having some wierd electrical problems. When I start the truck for the first time, the Power Windows, Dome Lights, and Windshield Wipers refuse to work for the first five miles or so of driving. Once everthing begins to work the Intermittant function does not kick in until another 5 - 10 miles have passed. The problem seems worse since the weather has gotten colder. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Paul

My wife's car had a similar problem a few months back ('96 minivan). What I finally noticed is that after starting the car, the key was not rotating all the way back from the START position into the RUN position.

When it wasn't all the way clicked in, the car would still run but none of the accessories (radio, power windows, etc.) would work. Contact wasn't being fully made until it clicked in.

A few miles down the road, due to the various road vibrations, the key would click the final way in and all the accessories would work again.

I haven't done anything to fix it, although I assume it's some spring which just need replacing to force it back all the way. For now, we just always make sure to manually turn it to RUN. (Oh and also convinced my wife thatthe car isn't possessed.).

I'm not real sure but there is a thing called a GEM module that is involved in these systems. It's someplace under the dash. I haven't had any probs. but have seen posts on this if you do a search.
