Post Wiring for a CB

I am trying to wire up a CB in my truck
2000 F150 XLT is there an easy way to tap into the electical system. Or how do you suggest to tap into the electical.

Thanks

I've been supposed to pick mine up for 2 months now, but Ford decided to drag their feet... Long story and off the subject... I plan to tap into the stereo power line to run a relay in a wire direct from the battery. The direct wire from the battery gives you the least noise, and putting it on a relay means I don't need to worry about leaving it on overnight and draining the battery. I eventually plan to wire it up on a switch that gives me off, on with the key, and on all the time, but that'll get wired in when I get my fog lights wired up too... Oh, the list I've got..... :-)

Thumbs up

Here's a neat little gadget that you can use to add a new circuit. You pull a fuse from the fuse block and plug this block into the original slot. The block has two slots. One slot is for the original circuit and the other slot is for a new circuit. I haven't used one of these yet, but it seems much safer than using the fuse taps.

Where do you plan on mount the actual CB? Under the dash? also what of antena did you get and where did you run the wire for it? I got a magnetic mount . Haven't really thought about wher to put every thing.

Thanks in advance!

Well, I'm 1/2 way there...

I mounted a fuse and relay block under the hood, and mounted some aux switches in the cab. I ran a dedicated wire from the battery through the relay block, and into the cab. I still haven't exactly determined where I will mount the CB, but I'm leaning towards the front of the dash under the HVAC controls to eliminate any spillage from the cup holders in the center console.

I can post some pix of the wiring if you're still interested.

I still haven't worked out the details for the antenna mount. I want to go with the K-40 permanent mount, but they usually drill the mounting hole through the roof over the dome light. Unfortunately, with the power moon roof, this is not feasable. I think the rear of the cab above the 3rd brake light would work, but I need to find out how the headliner is now affixed to the roof, so I can figure out how to expose the rear of the cab without destroying the custom headliner. That's gonna be a project!

List of planned mods: Clear tails, color matched trailer hitch with stainless steel ball, torsion bar tweak, bug deflector, spray in liner, and a tonneau of some sort...

Thanks for your help!!! It seems that every project I get started on rrequires some serious work to do right. I love the satisfication afterward though.

Yes I would like to see a wiring diagram if it not too much trouble. I'm a wiring idiot! I was thinking of mounting it under the dash next to the spot for a trailer brake or on the passenger side. I just don't want feet to kick it. Bringin the antenna cable in by the brake sounds like a good idea. I think there's a rumber gromet at the back of the cab between the cab and the Bed. This might be a good spot to bring it in.
