Keyless Entry Keychain
May sound stupid, but before I try it and destroy something, can anyone tell me how to replace the battery in my remote? And does the one for a 97 have to be reprogrammed? Thanks!

I just changed mine, although it's a 98, and all I did was take a razor blade (or something thin) and put it in the groove on the remote (between the top of the remote and the bottom). Pull it apart and the top of the remote will come off. The battery comes right out. The top of the remote will click right back in when you put it back together. I did not have to reprogram anything either.
You should have bought a chevy-----the battery in the remote keyless entry lasts longer than the truck

I have yet to wear out a battery on a remote. Constant daily use on the one for my Explorer and never a problem. Ditto for my dad's alarm on his car... it's an 88 Town Car and it's had exactly 2 batteries... the original and one about 3 or 4 years ago.

My truck is two years old and I just started noticing that I'm losing range on my transmitter. I can't open the doors from as far away as I used to. The second fob, the one that hardly gets used, works just fine. I'm hoping a new battery will get back the range.
