Head Light Mod
Alright I figured it out. Somewhere on this board I saw a bunch of pictures of a guy making his fog lights come on with the factory switch. But it was a 2000, not a 1998 like mine. So i got to tinkering and I found a solution just the way he did. You simply pull the light panel switch out. disconnect the wire harnesses. carefulley remove the faceplate (several melt points). If you are careful (use a small screw driver) you don't have to glue it back on, it pops back on. I then used a little dremel with a flat ended cylindrical grinder to remove the ramp. you'll see it. you also have to remoe a tab outside the ramp in order to be able to turn just the fogs on. simply check the action of the switch and make sure everything is smooth. reassemble. then take a 6 inch long piece of wire (I used 16 gauge) and trim the ends. you will need to take this 'jumper' wire and force it into the black/wight connection on the far right (as you are in the drivers seat). the other end of the jumper needs to go into the lower left connection (i believe it was red/blue).
My truck now has a lot of light options. I have the auto lamps but rarely use them. It came with the DRL (it's from Canada). Keep in mind that when the truck is running these are always on. I can now have DRL/ DRL and fogs/ DRL, markers and fogs/ regular head lights and markers/ regular head lights, markers and fogs, AND this also does the high beam mod, Highbeams AND fogs! I would like to thank whoever it was that posted those pics as it was a great aid in trying to figure out the highbeam/fog mod. Thanks again, Pooley

Yes, I also got those instructions from Fedexpilot's post and did the thing on my
2000 yesterday. Really neat. I could not for
the life of me figure out WHAT good fogs
were in a blizzard if you had to have the
low beams on anyway that light up the snow
flakes to blind you in a white curtain in front of the truck. Seems like fogs close to the ground are all you'd want if you were in a situation like that and could not see. I can't wait for the first Northeaster here to try out the 'fogs-only' function. Ha.
Thanks to all for this neat trick! Great
source of information here.

I thought I had it. Everything was working fine then I blew a fuse. Does anyone know the how to do this mod on a '98 with autolamps and DRL's? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Pooley

Pooley,I could be wrong but I thought there was a recall on the trucks from canada about the daytime running lights. I think they are taking the DRL out of the equation. You might want to pull you light panel and make sure nothing has melted, that would suck!! They might have said something about a fire hazard? Not sure, but you might want to look into it. Just a thought.

F150Degrees,
The recall (I didn't get notified) was that the lights were actually too bright for daytime running lights. At least that is what was explained to me. Not that there could be a fire hazard.
I have figured out the mod (almost). The only thing I haven't been able to do is pull the switch out in the off position to just get the fog (with DRL's as they are always on). I can turn the fogs on in any other position and can even keep them on with the high beams. This is just as FEDEXPILOT explained. Simply jumper the yellow to the dark brown (not brown with white stripe). This works fine. I would like to find out if anyone has figured out how to pull the switch in the off position and have them come on.

How did you remove your headlamp switch??
I am unable to figure this out! This is the crucial step that has stopped my everytime I try and pull apart my dash. Please help! I have a 1998 XL and this is a pain. I would really like some detailed instructions and pictures if you have any!
Thanks.
Thanks.
