Having problem with the driver door power lock. It will not go up or down with the door switch, remote, or when put into gear.

Anyone have an idea what may be wrong?

I'm about to take the door panel off in the next few days to see if anything is broke or warped.

Thanks to all that post ideas and ways to fix any problem. You all do a fine job of letting folks know what works and what does not.

Thanks for the advice. I'm out of warranty. The haynes manual is no good. It does not tell how to R&R door lock motor. Haynes manual was good for the door trim removal. Maybe I will see if a junk yard has two motors. Have one for a spare if the price is right.

As soon as the warranty goes out so does everything else.

Take it in (if underwarranty) if not, your door lock is probably shot. Mine did the same thing, took it in they replaced both power locks and now it works fine. It had them confused for a while. They couldn't realize that one was going bad. They were bewilder by the fact that one was not working opposed to both. Anyways they replaced both of mine and it works fine, May just be your driverside is going bad, has your passanger side started acting funny yet? Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't? Hope this helps, the locks for my truck were about $60 each, i believe.

You might just try poping off the power lock cover from the door, unpluging the switch, maybe spray somw sicalon/wd-40 around, plug it back in before you take it to the dealer.

My 97 locks stoped working a little while ago, and I took the Dr lock apart, sprayed it, pluged it back in and presto it worked fine. If it gets me another 50k mikes than great!

Thanks for the advise. Pulled the the switch out this past weekend and it is bad. Will lube the passengers side to prevent it from stripping the gears like the drivers side did.

how many peoplehave had this problem. i had the same thing happen to mine at 36,020 miles. i was only 20 miles past warranty and the passenger door lock went out. dealer charged me 173.25 for it. we need to contact ford about this. they seems to have a defective door lock. email me at svtaudio@aol.com if this has happened to you.

 

Anyone know where a drivers door lock can be purchased besides the dealer? The dealer wants $60.00 for the solinoid. No junk yards have any. What is the use of power door locks if only one works?
