Angry Radio Light Problem

Well, I fired up the ol Ford tonite (1990 F150) and the radio clock/station light is very, very dim to the point you almost can see it. I checked all the fuses and they are all find. All other electrical circuits are fine as well. Is there an easy fix to this or am I just going to have to buy another radio.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

Thumbs down

Bad news, dude... there's a tiny little bulb that mounts in there... it can be replaced, but to my knowledge, it's a dealership item only. (I used to sell sylvania lights for 2 years and they weren't available then, but that was almost 5 years ago, so who knows?) At least at the dealer, it shouldn't be any more than 10 bucks.

yeah there is a little bulb in there, pull out the radio, take the top cover off and there is a bulb in the socket, you should be able to do it your self if u have radio tools (to remove the radio from the dash) and can figure out how to do it, other wise there should be someone a ford who can, it should only cost about .5 of an hour labour but that depends on the place, but no more than an hour.( an hour would be high)

I wouldn't let the dealer remove it... it takes all of 2 seconds with the stereo tool... I know people that have made them, but I believe any reputable shop like Mickey Shorr would probably do it for you no charge.

Lightbulb

If this is the radio with the little hole in each corner of the faceplate, find some pieces of bailing wire (or similar) and push it into each hole to release the springs. Then slide the deck out. I've replaced a bulb once, but have also had one deck that this didn't fix. Good luck!
P.S. If you can't fix it, Don't waste Ford Dealer labor when you might be able to just buy a new stereo somewhere that has free installation.
