Post top of the passenger side dash...little window??

one quick question.....on the passenger side, top of the dash, there is a long, about 28" panel. it snaps down in several places. my question is, what is the electrical box mounted to the under side of it? there are louvers cut in it with what seems to be some kind of window under them. i would like to know because i just wrapped some of my interior panels in snow leopard print and i covered that panel. just curious if it was hurting anything? thanks....

TIMSBIGRED;
In The Super Crew the electrical box you refer to is part of the automatic light system. After removing the panel, I covered the light sensor with opaque paper. Now I have a poor man's DRL (daylight running lights) -- although they're running at 100 percent rather than a DRL reduced setting. Don't know what other goodies are in there. But, I've got to ask .... "snow leopard print" ????? Hope this helps. Don't know if the '98 lariat's had the auto lamp feature.

P.S. Great web page !!!

As FedExPilot said, it is the Auotlamp sensor.
The 97 Lariats had Auotlamp (had one) so it seems reasonable the 98s did too. I have it on my 2000 XLT.
