Removing DRL's
I'm trying to find the part for the dummy plug that replaces the DRL module. If anyone has the dummy plug, can you look for a part number. The local dealership doesn't have a clue.
Thanks,
Ron

Ron,
Sorry I can't help you with a #, but could you answer a question for me (and a few others)? Where is the DRL module in the wiring harness? I thought it was behind the left headlight, accesable from below the truck? I have a 98 F150 and a 00 Expy, but neither has a plug there. Either they moved the location for 98's and up, or they left it out completly for on some trucks (sold in the US?). I can't believe FORD would make two different wiring harness, one for Canada and one for the US. The last few years, the emphasis has been on part interchangability even for different models, i.e. one door handle for 20 models instead of 20 different door handles.

My harness is behind the left headlight. I went to the dealer last week and he even had a wiring layout for the headlights and the drl module. No dummy plug, only the realy for drl's. My harness seems to be a little high to be able to reach from underneath and also in a tight space. Removing it may be a fun job ;-) .

Anyone know who to get DRL's into the 2000 Expy? I've looked and cannot find this "dummy module." I saw a Canadian Expy on the road the other day and almost tried to pull him over to ask for a look at the wiring harness!

Looked for the DRL plug behind the drivers side headlamp on my '98 XLT Expedition....no joy. Does anyone know if this plug even exists on the '98 Expys and if so where it can be found. I ordered the "generic" DLR wire it an d splice it in module but lots of loose wires floating around under the dash will NOT be as good as a direct plug in module if available. Can anyone lend me a hand here?

Someone told me they were behind the glove compartment on the SuperDuties. Wonder if they moved them there on yours also? Worth a look? Also is some kind of plug up behind the battery box that has something to do with them, again this is one the SD's.

Ford guys,
Are you folks trying to eliminate or turnoff you DRL's? If you are, you can just unplug the DRL resistor. It about the size of a pack of gum with an oval hole on one side, and it's made of a white/tan ceramic material. Mine was bolted right behind the left grill and bumber (where they meet together). You can access it in the left front wheel well.
But I have a Canadian truck, and didn't like the lights on all the time.

Ok, here's an update to the DRL story...I called every Ford dealer in a 30 mile area. All the shops have a picture and listing for the harness behind the headlight with the DRL module. Nobody has a listing for the dummy plug. The only way they can order the plug is to have the Ford part number. I think this harness is only on '97's. If anyone has a '97 and could get the number from the dummy plug, i would really appreciate it. One dealer said he would pull the plug on a 97 if one came in, to get the number.

Jupiterak,
Depends. Rmangers' wants to disable his. Apparently on 97's, if you just pull the module, the lights don't work right. You have to replace it with some sort of dummy plug. However, many of us want to install DRL, but we can't find the place in the harness to plug in the module. Apparently on US trucks, they left it off, at least on 98's and newer. I've checked my 98 150 and my 2000 X and neither have any place in the wiring >behind the drivers headlight< for such a module. One of the Canadian owners with a 98 said that is where his is. So there are apparently two different wiring harness' in use.

I have a 1997 Canadian built F150 with DRL's and just received a Safety Recall Notice to bring in my truck to have the DRL's disconnected. Apparently they are too bright for US standards. The Recall # is 00S14. Anyone else get this notice?
Thanks.

These pages may help some of you out in finding the modules as well as disabling the DRL. Some people want to disable the DRLs... some people want the DRLs enabled... I'm one of the people that want them enabled. I created some web pages that may help everyone.
All I ask is if you have DRLs that you post the part number for the DRL Relay Block. See my web page... http://www.voicenet.com/~storm/drl
It is case sensitive since it's running on a Unix box.

I called Ford and they said my truck would not be getting the recall. I don't understand since my truck was one with the DRL's. I said hell with them and went to the dealer with the Recall number. The part is $5 and takes about 2 minutes to install. And now no more DRL's !!!
