Question Wipers come on by themselves

I have a '97 F-150 2WD V-6 out of warranty.
My windshield wipers will occasionally just come on by themselves while I'm driving. They will sweep 4 times at high speed and then park, with a couple days between occurences. This is a strange problem.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

I'm in the same boat. My wipers will go on sometimes for a minute or so and then just stop. It doesn't happen that often so, I too, havn't gone to the dealer just for this.

There have been numerous messages posted to this affect. I havn't seen a definite solution to the problem, but a few messages said the problem was related to the switch.

You need a new multi-function switch. If it's still under warranty, the dealer will change it. Just tell them you're having a "Phantom Wiper" problem.

I thought I was the only one with this problem, I own a 1999,and mine will do this randomly but only swipe once, and stop. There is no rhyme or reason to it but it never bothered me enough to mention it to my service rep at Ford.
