Question Daytine running lights installation

I just received the daytime running light accessory kit from Ford; the kit comes with an electrical module with color-coded wires and an instruction sheet. The instructions are multi-language (one sheet fits all)and they don't seem too clear at some stages. Has anyone out there done this installation? If so, how did it go?

Cphilip: I got the DRL from Ford through their F-Series accessories catalog...the item # is AFS601 listing for $63.65. The number is 1-800-527-7799 or try www.iCollection.com
(Go into the "store directory" and choose "accessories")

The packing list shows the item # as XL3Z-19A414-AA, however, the number on the package is F6SZ-13B218-AA. To top it off, the number on the actual module is F6AJ-19E522-AA. You figure it out...!

If you can make the "autolights" work during the day (by covering the sensor), why buy DRLs?

I don't think electrical tape would stand the heat too well. I used a small strip of rubber and RTV. A dashboard cover, a blue Ford bean bear or a Furbie would work too

Question

Does the DRL installation qualify for a discount on insurance rates, or does it have to be original equipment?

I went thru the problems with installing the DRL over a year ago on my 1999 F-150. There is an easier way to do it than adding the unit where you have to strip wires.

The Canadian trucks are required to have DRL in all their trucks. So sometimes there is a plug in your truck that you can add the moduel used for the Canadian trucks. Its cheaper and all you have to do is plug in the moduel. I can not confirm that it is in all trucks, but read the small blurb on one of my web pages at http://home.mindspring.com/~hacklerl/SpecialP1.html and see if it is any help.

Just FYI.
The DRL's in Canada are actually the HIGH beams on at reduced output. If you want to temporarily turn them off, depress the park brake just until the first click. When the brake light on the dash is on, the DRL's are off. I'm not sure why though....
Regards.

If you have the auto lites all you need is a chip that you just plug in to the harness. Your dealer can get you this if you tell them that you want the DRL and have the autolites. All the trucks made in Canada have this built in. That is where mine was made and the DRL was alread on when I got the truck. personaly I want them off of my truck. The advantage to the DRL over tape is that only your headlights come on and not all the rest of them. They are also a dimmer light so that they do not annoy on coming traffic as bad as your normal lights. Plus your friends dont look at the tape on the dash and say that looks dumb on a new truck. Only old Chevys should look that way.

I on the other hand do not have the auto lights. That is a kit that I intend to have put on mine. Anyone done that? If you have that autos they should have this DRL jack also. When I called about the auto lights they told me that the kit included DRL kit also. So if you have auto lights then ask befor you chop wires, it may already be there.

Does the autolights (aka autolamp, that comes with powerseats?) turn the headlights on & off when it is dark out? My brother's Taurus does this & it is so cool.

quzax,

Daytime lights are always on when the key is on day or night. Autolights come on in the dark and stay on for an adjustable amount of time after you turn off the key. They are cool. The kit costs less than $65. It even comes with a new switch and all other hardware. Will have mine on wed.
