head light switch question

head light switch question

can everyone tell what the symbol to the left (light with the A) is for. cant figure it out what it does. have no manual...

That is the Autolamp position.

In that setting, once it gets dark enough, the lights will automatically turn on.

That looks like one from a 97-03 MY, so the light sensor is under the small grill on the top of the dash, towards the oval on the passenger side.

If you did not get an owners manual with your truck ( purchased used ), you can download one from Ford :

it means auto
so when the sensors detect its gettign dark the headlights will automatically turn on and turn off

You think it might not be working ?

If you turn it to the Autolamp position, and cover the small grill on the top of the dash, the lights don't go on ?

What is the trim level on your truck ?

I think the switch might have been replaced. i see no sensors on the dash. will look again but did see anything to resymbol and sensor.

The sensor is under the dash. Is there a small grill on the top of the dash towards the passenger side ( where the oval is ).

Could be the switch was changed, and all the PO found was an autolamp switch.

EDIT : Searched the albums, found a picture that might help. The grill looks to be in the oval dash piece, not by it.



In the picture above, you will see a small detail in the center of the dash, which is the left hand side of the oval.
