Angry Door Locks Acting Up

I know I'm going to get hit with the old "search this" hits but I already have so if you can help please do. I have a 2004 F150 Xlt Supercab. My power door locks have been acting up for about 2 weeks know. They are working in all types of weird combinations sometimes. one day the drivers side door will work sometimes the passenger door works fine. and it changes in between the key fob working and the power door lock switches on either door. I can here a click from behind the seat when i hit the key fob. This thing is making me wanna trade it in please help.

Not sure what the other threads did not tell you, or if you did not understand them.

Same as other threads on the similar symptoms.

1. It is usually the lock actuators, most just replace them, as they are cheap enough.

Test them by puling the door panel off, and apply power directly to the wires to the door locks.
One direction will lock the doors, reverse polarity and they will unlock.

2. The other problem could be with the BSM / VSM, but considering they work some times, I would not suspect the wires in the driver's side door sill ( but this is not ruled out at the moment ).

This is assuming that you do not have an after market RKE / alarm installed.

no after market alarm. Just don't understand why it work some days and not the other. but what your saying is just play with the actuators. And what is BSM/VSM?

If I recall correctly VSM = Vehicle Security Module.

is there some part of the power door lock system behing the rear seat? I can here a click back there when I press the button on the key fob. I have the non power rear slider and see a little water leak in the window when I go thru a touch free car wash

With those added symptoms, pull the back seat, and check the VSM ( sorry that is Vehicle Security module, used to be called the BSM or Body Security module ) to make sure there is no water damage, and the ground is good ( corroded ground ? )

I got to the BSM and doesn't seem like any water damage or corroded ground. I'm starting to lean towards door lock actuators. My only thing is when I press the key fob I do here a click from the BSM. I'm hoping I should. I think tomorrow I will pull the door lock actuators and test them. Its just weird that they go in and out like this. If I unplug the BSM do I have to take it to Ford to be reprogrammed?

If you hear A click, that is fine. That is the lock / driver's unlock or all unlock relay working.

It could also be the wires in the door sill, but go to testing 1 of the actuators first, it will be easier.

If you unplug the BSM, unless you static shock the pins on the connector, no need to take it to Ford. If there is a problem with it, that would be a R&R for it.

lock actuators will start to act strange when they go out ( work some times, only work in 1 direction, etc )
