New Keys for 2000 F-150
Went to the dealer to get two extra keys for the wife's 2000 F-150 4X4 Lariat. They say "Curtis" on them. They both open the doors fine, but need to be jiggled to operate the ignition. The service department coded one key and I did the other. The original keys both start the car immediately, but the "new" keys from the dealer parts department only work half the time. And, when they do work, the motor cranks for a while 10-20 seconds before it "catches". Both keys are going back to the parts department ($20 each + tax). Anyone have similar problems? Should "real" keys say "FORD" on them?

The extra key I had the dealership program did not say FORD either. HOWEVER...it cranked the engine right away and the few times that I have used it..the motor fires right away...just like the originals.
Take them back for sure!

I had the dealer make a new key and it had the same Curtis brand name. I decided to program it myself since I still had the original two keys, as two are required. The new key fit the locks just fine and just for fun I tried to start with it un-programmed. The starter ran about as long as I thought it could stand the heat but the engine would not start. After following the program procedure the key starts it like normal. I think these anti-theft keys are superior to the starter cut-out found with most alarm systems.

Just be forwarned..some idiot several months back made a post on how to get around the key code security feature (or so he claimed). I also like this feature..but I would like to see a starter cut out added as an extra measure of protection! Has anyone tried one of the *new* anti-theft batteries? It prevents the vehicle from being started much the same way.
I would like to recommend that you carry a spare computer key with you..since it is possible these keys could fail and leave you stranded. A buddy of mine that use to own an Expedition..had this problem where his key left him stranded a couple of times and he had to have his wife bring him her key. They finally went to the dealership and had an extra key made. He sold the Expy...
So far...no problems with mine.....

My spare PATS key is by HURD. The couple times I've tried it, it worked fine.
I followed someone's suggestion got a standard blank cut to open the door. I keep that one in my wallet and hide the spare PATS inside the cab.

Last year when I purchased my '99 F150 I had to bring it back to the dealership because they lost one of the keys and I didn't want just one of them. They tried to program 3 Curtis keys and the truck wouldn't accept any of them. They ended up ordering a different brand of key (that is identical to the original ones - Ford is written on it) and that works fine.
