With all the attention my truck got new and those overkill courtesy lights the battery kept running low. Then in the process of installing my auxilliary battery and having doors open for 3 hours the main battery ran completely down. Fortunately I used 2AWG wire so I could pull enough amps to start with the auxilliary battery. When I finished the control wiring I just flipped the dash mounted toggle switch to parallel the batteries, it cranked over faster than usual and started right up! Now a year later the main battery seems fine since the doors aren't left open as much.

It all depends on what type of conditions you live in, and what type of driving you do.
exsessive heat or cold are a batteries worst enemy.
I live in the Northeast, when I had a heated garage, I had a battery last 90,000 miles. Now that I have a unheated garage my last vehicle's battery died at 70,000 miles.
Also short trips are tougher on a battery, if you start your truck, then restart it a lot it will die faster than if you just start it and drive long distances.
It seems with todays better electrical systems, and better batteries, they are holding up better than in the past.

Mine is a '97, my Brother-in-law also has a '97. Both batteries went last fall. My 1st instinct in batteries was 'The bigger the better', gimmie a 4,000,000 CCA if it will fit. (I like to leave the doors open and listen to the radio while working etc.) When I went to my local battery 'guru' he said, 875 CCA is all I should put in. The reason for this is the plates are too close together above 875 CCA. Apparently if the plates touch each other, bye bye battery.
Just a side note. Ford really cheaped out putting a 550 CCA battery in my Lariat with auto headlights, and all the power crap on board!

Since I bought my F-150 in late 94, I have had about 4 battery's. Yes my alt and wires are fine. The latest one lasted 2 months, and the one before about 3 years. The factory ford lasted the longest.

My early 1997 was purchased in June 1996 and is almost 42 months old and I have the original battery. Temperatures range here from 105F in summer to 28F today. Also I run my off road lights with no less battery life. Also, no door cracks, wiper problems, torsion bar breaking, rattles, air leaks, rough running, piston slap etc. Guess I lucked out on mine!

I am thinking about going to a 2001 Supercrew in the next few months. What do you think, am I crazy? I love the four full doors but am disappointed you cannot get the ORP on them, and the 4x4 comes with 16" std. and 17" optional - but you can't get the LT tires in 17" from Ford, even though GoodYear offers them - why? Who makes the decisions for these people?
