Post Anyone installed an aftermarket keyless entry?

I bought a keyless entry system from (don't laugh) JC Whitney. It was only $30 so I figured what the heck. Anyway the directions say that there are 3 possible wiring systems. A 3 wire positive, 3 wire negative and a 5 wire reverse polarity system. Does anyone know what kind the F150 is? Also is it hard to get a system installed. The master lock switch is under the door panel pod, but I can't seem to trace the wires into the cabin from the door. If anyone knows or has installed one I'm definately willing to listen.

Bob,
I Installed an alarm in mine when I got the truck, I hooked the pwr locks up to it in the door panel, its fairly simple to remove, if you start from the door(inside of it) you can trace the wires into the cabin, It is a very tight squeeze. I still have,nt figured out what kind of wire system the dome light uses, so my alarm doesn't know if the doors are open or not when it sets, but if I find out I'll let you know guess I have to buy the Chilton manual

Cool

Five wire reverse polarity. The wires are above the brake pedal so you have to get on your back with a flashlight and look up. Lock is pink/yellow and unlock is pink/green. Dome light is black/blue. Constant power is found at the ignition switch;it's yellow. Switched power is also found at the ignition switch and it's blue/green. Parking light wire is on the right side under the drivers lower dash panel. It is brown and can be tapped at the trailer brake harness. I think that should answer anything. If not, e-mail me... Hi Sycoholic,

You sound like "the man" when it comes to alarms. I was thinking about putting an aftermarket alarm on my truck. I have installed them before. I put an Excaliber on my wifes first Mustang GT and a DEI unit on my old Chevy S10. I also added power door locks to both systems and added the trunk release stuff with the Mustang.

My question is that I now have the Factory anti-theft/keyless entry system. If I just install the new alarm and tap into the existing door locks, will I have a problem with the horn for the factory anti-theft system going off if I open the door without using the factory remote, or will I need to disconnect something?

Thanks for any advice!

Cool

You would/should get the keyless upgrade alarm system. It uses your factory remotes. It's cheaper than a regular alarm since it doesn't have remotes too. Instead of hitting the pink/green and pink/yellow for lock/unlock, you'll use the pink/black for lock, and red/orange for unlock, and pink/green for a sense wire. They run in the same harness that goes to the gem module under the dash by the firewall behind the e-brake lever. It's much easier to install also. Ford has a nice unit available, and it will be covered by the remainder of your 3/36 warranty, or 1/12. Whichever gives you the longest coverage.
