im going to try that today.... u ight think i am crazy but the only time the fuse blows is when it is raining or when there is forcast of rain.. i know it sound insane but it is true!

 

Could be, I have seen stranger things.

Just make sure to get it unplugged prior to the rain starting.
- So you can test when it is known to fail
- So you don't get the interior wet with the door open

 

unplugged it drove in the rain for 2 days and the fuse did not blow.... so what does that mean?

 

Some where in the instrument illumination you have an intermittent short to ground or the switch itself is the cause.

I would say it is the only non factory item with the Head Unit, but that is a SWAG. Easy enough to remove the pin with a Metripack connector pin tool, and tape it up to see if it happens again.

Kind of hard to test the switch ( or the other items ) with the test criteria ( rain ), but you can try it.

Your call if you want to shell out the money to replace the switch, and see if it changes things with the instrument illumination connector reattached or not.

Else it is running the wiring on each one, trying to find chaffed insulation.

The other place to check would be the wiring to the Aux Relay box under the hood, to see if there is an issue with the wiring to the clock spring illumination fuse ( prior to that fuse ). That would almost make sense for rain being the issue.

well i bought a new switch and the problem still exists..... now im at a complete loss.

If you replaced the switch, that leaves the instrument illumination.

Considering the head unit is aftermarket I would remove the illumination from the head unit ( cut the wire, and blind end tape both sides ), and leave the truck's instrument illumination connected at the switch.
