Hella lights wiring

Hella light kit - Lost the Directions from the box. Since im not a wiring guru I Need help with wiring them up.

Wires from the relay are..
Black--
Red--- With inline fuse-- Guessing to battery
Yellow--
Blue-- Blue I know is Ground.

Then there is a Green extra wire by itself with a inline fuse.

What do I hook up to what?

Which lights are they? Do they have that little glow ring around them? If so, maybe that's what the green wire is for? I think the yellow is for the switch?

Hella 500's. Driving lights
No glow rings.
Thinking the green wire is for the switch somehow

Thank MGDfan that helped a bit..

However I think im confused now on how to actually wire up in accordance to the other lights.
1. It was my understanding that law only allows 2 sets of lights to run at one time.
2. It was my understanding that law says when using brights you can only have one set of lights on. (thus the reason why the factory fogs switch off when brights are turned on)

So,
1. If no other lights are 'on' I dont want these to necessarily run, but I could have them.
2. I dont want them to run if there are 2 other sets of lights running. (per law)
3. Im not sure if I want them to come on when High beams are used (per directions)- (per law)
4. Can see myself scrambling around trying to figure out what I have running when a car comes around the bend and trying to figure out what to turn off.
5. May want to run them with the headlights only, parking lights only, or run them with fogs only for a while.

Not sure if there really is a good answer to any of this as to the way to hook them up.

Hi again sir.

Okay - if you want to do that, simply use additonal relays to act as 'permissives' to only supply power to the Hellas under the conditions you specify.

If you PM Steve (SScully), and ask him nice-like, he may draw up a quick example schematic to show you how. He is the best.

If you wait fer me to post one up, you'll be an old man - hell, took me over an hour to type this here post And another to speeeeel chek it!

Spend some time with those diagrams I linked - it'll come to you, I'll bet - ain't complicated.

You'll note that a lot of folks do not seem to be under the same constraints w.r.t running multiple lights, lol.

Good luck!

instead of tapping into the brights just run it straight to the battery, this way you can turn them on and off whenever you want

1st thing is to figure out how you want them to work. Designing something on not sure and may want to is hard to do.

2nd thing, this is going to be 3 or 4 additional relays added to the power to the Hella switch, keep in mind some day you might need to diagnoses this mouse trap some day.

To be honest, there is not much scrambling to be done if you only use them when you want them to ( post decision on the list above ), and the Hella switch is illuminated, so it will tell you when they are on.

If you want to build this, get the decision on how you want them to work, and I can draw something up.

Getting Back to this..Been Busy

Law basically says I cant have more than 4 lights on at a time, and they cant be over 300 candlepower.

Not sure what the candlepower is of the hella 500's
(These hella's are the driving lights not the fog lights)

Looking for suggestions from others who have wired theirs up.

But thinking at this point just to put them on a separate switch to turn on and off when I want, but also thinking maybe hook them up so that they would automatically turn off when the brights were on. Dont know how much headache and wiring that would entail.

Ok how do I wire these lights up.. Just want on a separate switch to turn on/off when I want. Heres a crude picture of what I have to start with.
Need to mention there was another wire in the box seperate with a inline fuse built in

The directions are listed above :
http://www.hella.com/produktion/Hell...structions.pdf

The only change would be rather then to the low or high beams, you would power the switch from a hot in run position source ( i.e. add-a-fuse in the radio slot ).

In this picture from the Hella instructions, it is the 56a wire that is not attached to the headlamps, but to the hot in run position.

there should be a rubber grommet in the firewall that you can put a small hole in to run the wire into the cab.

Ok theres one on the drivers side and one one on the passenger side. Passenger side looks like it is harder to get to because of the battery.
So am I putting a actual hole in the grommet or do I try to side the wire in next to the wire loom that is already going thru?
Should I use a coat hanger or something to feed it thru?

Yeah I think you will actually have to make a small hole in it to slide the wires through. I wired my off-road lights on a three pole switch. Up they are on only with brights, and down they are on all the time. This makes it easier for me to run the lights and flip them off when you need to.
