97 f-150 fuse box
97 f-150 fuse box
I have a 97 F-150 that the break lights and the shifter lock don't work on. Before I replace the break inter-lock switch I would like to check the fuse. I don't have an owners manual with my truck. Can anyone tell my want number fuse to look at?
Thanks Carl
Thanks Carl
If you did not get an owners manual with your truck ( purchased used ), you can download one from Ford :

Cab Fuse panel, fuse # 13 is the BPP ( Brake Pedal Position Switch ) fuse, which also includes the rear anti lock and the brake pressure switch.
Have you had the recall done ?
recall 05S28. Description: Speed Control Deactivation Switch.

Thanks Sscully, it's not the fuse so I guess I'll need to replace the inter-lock switch and see what happens. I know I could have pulled all the fuses and looked at everyone to find out if one was bad, but I have a couple of broken vertibrate that don't like to be bent and twisted for any length of time. Thanks again for your help and the Ford web site is great.

Is there a web site to check for recalls on my truck that would show if it has been done? My truck doesn't have cruise control, would that make a difference?

The BPP is a SPST switch, so it would be easy enough to test while installed.
Fuse #13 -> Light Green w/ Red stripe wire -> BPP switch -> Light green wire.
The light green wire goes to the Shift Interlock, MFS ( MultiFunction Switch ) CHMSL, etc.
If you check the Light Green wire on the BPP switch, you should have + 12 V DC when you press on the pedal.
Best to check on the wire from the Fuse also.
If you do not have CC installed, the recall is non applicable.
Ford's web site has a VIN check for recalls, and you can register your truck to you, so any future recalls are sent to you. Obviously they give the list to your local dealer, so you will get the flood of " Service Specials" for the month.
