Need New Key

I have lost the ignition key for my 2001 F150 and was wondering if I can get a new key and program it myself without having to pay the dealer for a program.

I still have one key that works.

This truck is plain and does not have a remote key fob.

Didn't know which forum to address this issue to, any help is appreciated.

Section in the owners manual, you need 2 programmed keys, to add another.

You can use a locksmith that has a PATS cloner, but this will be an exact copy of the key you have ( still cannot program another key with it, it will look like the key you have ). This will get you to having another key, without paying the money.

The best route is to have the dealer or a high end mechanic erase all the PATS keys, and program the 1st 2, so the lost key will no longer start the truck.

There are also locksmiths who can erase PATS and reprogram all the keys. I did mine a year ago and it cost $39.95 for the key and $60 for the programming.
Local dealer asked $35 for the key and $70 for programming.
