Sounds like you need a new passenger-side power window switch.

(... And I might just just happen to know where one is for sale cheap.)

I have an set from an '01 in a grey panel. (Switches should pop in and out if yours is a different color.)

Let me see if I can verify they're the same as the '97.

Before you buy anything, remove the switches and test them

remove & replace is an expensive way to fix something at times, and considering the passenger side window runs through the driver' side switch, hard to tell which switch ( if either ) it is without testing.
Could also be a broken wire in one of the door to A-pillar harness.

Well there you go getting all technical (again).

I didn't realize the passenger side ran through the driver's side switch (and never really thought about a broken wire because it happens so infrequently).

      Good info, as usual.

EDIT: I don't suppose you know if the '01 switch I have here will help him out?

I looked, and the switches in the '01 panel look to have different connectors than my '99's. I assume they'll be different than the '97-98, as well.

I have a similar issue with mine, when i removed the door panel to replace the speakers one side of the clip on the actual switch the clasp on the side broke on one side of it, so now when i press the button to let it down nothing happens, however when i press it up and then down it works, i think what its doing is repositioning itself allowing it to be depressed and allow the window to lower. Hope this helps your situation.
