digital odometer reading

Where are the miles stored, in the ecu or in the actual dash display on a 99 f150

In the HEC in the cluster. This is also the same place your programmed PATS keys are stored.

That kinda sucks. The motor I'm swapping in my truck has 10k miles. My truck has 123k. Along with the motor came numerous parts since I bought the whole chassis, one which was the dash bezel. But sold it thinking the miles were stored in the ecu. Would have been nice to have the cluster with matching miles to the motor.

Can the HEC be removed from an old style ( no tach ) and put into a cluster w/tach ?

I am 80% sure the HEC is also where the brains for the gauges in the cluster are at.

this means a HEC for one without a TAC, put into a cluster with a TAC, the TACH will be dead.

There is a 20% chance I am not recalling this correctly.
