I have a '98 Expy that has a wierd issue. The dome light works properly when the truck is remotely unlocked, doors open, turned on by the dimmer switch, etc. However none of the map lights work. What could cause this? Any help is appreciated!

 

Burnt out bulb ?

Those are dual element bulbs in there.

 

I checked the bulbs, all of them are working. With the dome light on I can turn off each one with the map light switch. For a while I was leaving the dome light on and turning them all off with the map light switches. That way the next time you pushed the button it would come on. The down side with that is there is no dome light.

Normally I wouldn't worry about this kind of stuff, but it bothers my wife, and as the saying goes " if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy".

 

I am going to guess the EXPY is not the same as the F-150, as what you posted does not make sense.

Checking the bulb would be pulling it, and testing both elements with a DC power source.

If what you posted above is how you "tested" them, you did not actually test them. You are assuming they are good.

 

I checked the bulbs with my cordless drill battery, they are all good. I have an Expedition, they have two bulbs in the overhead console, one over each rear door, and one over the rear hatch. They all come on for dome light functions, and while they are on I can turn each one off with the map light buttons. However when I want to use a map light none of them will work. None of the bulbs are dual filiment.
