4x4 switch going out???
4x4 switch going out???
Hey guys. I drove down to the beach again yesterday. I put the truck in 4x4 H and went out on the beach. The dash lit up "4x4" and all is good. I drove around for awhile without any problems. Then I stopped, put the trans in neutral, and turned the switch to Low range as I just wanted to put the truck in Low for a minute...Nothing happened. I tried again...nothing. I put it in park and tried again...nothing. The HIGH was staying lit up bu tit wasn't going into Low. I tried a few more times and finally it went into "low range" and that lit up on my dash and I heard another click. I drove a little bit with it and then went back to High. After I finished driving on the beach I of course took it out of 4x4 and back to 2wd. I even back up after I do this. I know its unnecessary...just an old habit! Is my switch on my dash going out??? It goes to 4x4 high without a problem.---DirtySCREW
What happens when you go from 2WD to 4L ( following the same procedure you use from the manual ) ?
I am guessing that the shift motor is not making the change from 4H to 4L for some reason.

I have the exact same problem. I bought mine used, but from a dealer, so i didn't really think anything of it, but I would really like to know what's causing it..I had the same thing on my Ranger I owned before my 08 F150.
Is it an ESOF ( Electronic Shift on the Fly ) or MSOF ( Mechanical Shift on the Fly ) ?

If 4H works correctly, and 4L is hanging up, I would try thumping the transfer case while someone shifts in and out of 2W to 4L.
Could be the shaft is hung up. Usually only see something like this on an older truck and usually it is only when it won't go into either 4H or 4L.
