Hey guys, my expedition keeps throwing a fuse. Its a 30amp under the steering wheel in that compartment. May not seem like a big deal but its a fuse that keeps the truck from running. I figured the F150 was the same so i thought I'd ask. It says in the manual that the fuse is for the ignition coils and the powertrain module. Obviously something is grounding it out and I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to take it somewhere for them to trace the wires down and see whats wrong but I was seeing if anyone knew anything about this or have experience the same thing and had it fixed. Forgot to mention its a 2001 expedition. Thanks!

 

What is the fuse number ?

 

It says #30 in the manual

 

If it is the same as the F-150 ( not 100% sure it is ) this feeds the radio noise capacitor #1 and the ign coils.

Have you checked the ign coil wires to see if one of the harnesses has damaged insulation on them.

Could be a problem with the radio noise capacitor as well ( seem to recall seeing this in a thread ).

 

Shorted RFI caps are the most common reason for blowing F30.

 

Took the truck in today and nothing is coming up on the diagnostic so they are tracing it down wire by wire, should have it back by monday. Quite interested to see what the problem is. I'm assuming it has something to do with the new fuel pump i had installed a few months ago.

 

I doubt it. The fuel pump is on a different circuit. They will probably waste their time and your money...

Tell them to check what I said above. It's either one of the RFI caps or shorted COP.

Diagnostic codes would never tell them where to look.
