Smile Trailer Tow Wiring Package Question (Aux & 12VDC)

New memeber here! Fantasctic amount of info, so I must first apologize if this is a redundant question. Truck is a 06 Supercrew/Lariat XLT, with factory tow option. Where can I find the conenction point in front cab/ or engine compartment for 12VDC and AUX pins on trailer connection? I pull a trailer that I will use teh 12VDC conenction to keep trailer brake emergency battery charged and wish to use the AUX to be able to turn on LED Strobe lights on rear of trailer. My work requires that I have some form of amber strobe lights to the rear of vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure what aux pin you are talking about on the 7 pin trailer tow adapter

The trailer tow battery charge circuit is hot any time the truck is in the run position. This is if the relay for it is installed. forget if this is the one item that is not installed on the 04-08 MY trucks ( used to be 2 things on the 99-03 MY )

In the hauling and towing forum there is a charge with the relay and fuse locations, watch the MY post, as both the 97-03 and 04-08 info in in the thread. Think it is still a sticky at the top of the forum.

Still wondering

No problem...thanks....Most of the 7 (RV) plugs I see diagrams for has the center pin shown as AUX, I do know that the back up lights was seen in some as well. Seems like If i need to accomplish my original task on being able to use the center pin, I will need to run a fused wire from front to the trailer connector, remove the wire currently on center pin, tape and install the new wire whcih will be switched/realyed controlled. Was hoping that the wire already was in harness...

Not sure where you are getting these diagrams from that show the reverse as an aux circuit.

the trailer wiring vendors some times call the battery charge circuit the aux circuit, but the reverse pin is still in the center. The trailer tow battery charge circuit is just a hot in run position 12 V to the trailer.

Hoppy's diagram

You might just want to add an additional 2 pin ( SAE type ) plug to the trailer, changing stock pins is how things get messed up later when trouble shooting something.

Heres the link that i was looking at. And by the way, thanks...you really have provided yons of very helpful information in this forum. I just neede to verify what I saw on other site for trailer connectionL

http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx

I still though need to disconenct the reverse wire, tape the end, and then run another wire from cab/engine compartment so that I may utilize the center pin as a way of providing electrcial connection from a fused switched circuitr I will install for the purpose of providing power to some warning lights.

Messing up standards

You are absolutely right! way to much over engineering here. I will utilize the electrical connection you advised. By the way I hate to say the word.... but my son's 2009 Chevy HD shows the center pin as AUX and eben provides an Orange/Black wire taped near hood fuse center so that it may be used accordingly. The reverse wire in that truck is actually not conencted in harness, but taped and looped bear rear trailer conenction. This is precisely why I was investigating difference. Thnaks again!

I realise this is an old thread but it is still the newest one that even sort of resembles what I am going to ask, Please forgive.

The +12v/Aux/"Trailer Battery Charge" wire in the 7-pin harness, Does this need to connect to any kind of special battery charging device to charge the battery on a trailer, or do you just connect the wires to the battery and charge it that way??

Thanks for any help, and sorry again for reviving a month and a half old topic

For myself, the trailer has a battery charger for the trailer brake battery.
