need advice on key replacement
I just realized that I lost my keys. In total I lost a key to my 04 f150, a key to my 02 explorer and the fob for my f150. Because I need to have keys programmed for 2 vehicles the dealer wants over $200 for everything.
It looks like I can get replacement keys online for pretty cheap, so the obvious cost is the reprogramming. I have access to an OTC Genisys scanner. Does anyone know if I can reprogram keys with the Genisys, or do I have to go to the dealer? Right now I still have 1 key for each, but I like to have backups. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure if that scanner would work or not. Can it access the HEC ?
Without the model number, I cannot check the operating manual to see if it can.
The procedure would be to do a HEC erase, the next 2 keys cycled in the ignition are programmed into the HEC as the valid keys.
This is the best route to go, so the programmed keys are not still valid.
The other option is some locksmiths have a RFID key burner, so they can copy not only the teeth on the key, they actually copy the RFID tag in the key with it.
While this will work for starting the truck, it will not work for programming another key to the system.
Your call which route you want to go, myself I would rather pay the 200.00 and know the lost key can no longer start the truck, and program a 3rd key for it straight away.

As much as I don't want to pay the dealer, I agree that I really don't want working keys to my vehicles floating around somewhere out of my control. So, if I have to go to dealer I will.
