Replacing lights behind spedo/tach ... is it hard

98 4.6/auto here.

Dash lights have almost completely gone out, I can only see the top part of my spedo at night when driving. Are these lights hard to change or can I go up through the under side somehow?

Thank guys

you will have to pull the cluster, which is only time consuming.

There is a thread in the Technical articles / How To forum on changing the cluster color, which shows how to get the cluster out, and where the bulbs are on the back

I went through this when I did my dash lights a few years ago. Apparently there's a trick with the headlight switch ****, to remove the switch assy (to get at the screw that's behind the headlight switch) which I didn't know about at the time. Once you've removed all the rest of the dash parts and retaining screws, just do what I did and yank the dash out, breaking the screw mount off of the dash back panel. There's enough screws holding it in there that if one's missing, you'll never notice. You have to pull just about all of the other dash panels out first, including the radio panel, cluster trim, L/H knee pad, corner panel l/h side, air bag cover on top, air bag r/h side, etc.

Hint : buy a box of 10 or 20 bulbs, and change every one in there, whether it's burnt or not. It's not a 1980 F150, 8 screws and it's out deal, so if you're in there, make it worth the trip ! Besides, if you have extra bulbs, you can use them everywhere - dome lamps, license plate, glove box, etc. They won't be wasted.

Denis ;-)
