Lighting - HVAC / Heated Seats - How to Fix?
Good day everyone!
I have an '06 Harley F150. The back lighting behind the HVAC panel, and the heat seates panel in the centre console is either burned out or broken. Functionality wise, both are working as intended, controlling the interior climate, and heating the seats. The back lighting behind the stereo controls is all fine too..
Is there any way I can fix this on my own, or is this a dealer trip at some point for me?
I had read posts about folks with complete HVAC panel issues, and they simply pulled and reseated the unit. I was going to try that, but I can't figure out how to pop the Harley trim piece around the stereo/HVAC controls easily, so I figured I'd post here before I broke anything.
Appreciate the insight and feedback.
Have a great day... take care

To pull the trim panel around the HAVC control panel / radio :
Open the ash tray.
Grab each lower corner, and pull, the panel is held on with spring clips.
The 1st time you pull it, it will be very hard to pull out.
Work your way up the sides of the panel, pulling out after the bottom is loose.
There are 6 or 8 clips holding it on.
Once you get to the top, remove the PAD lamp connector.
I am not sure if you will get anywhere with this, you are going to have to take the HVAC control panel apart. I do not recall seeing the 1/4 turn bulb holders on the back of that.

Well I managed to get the trim plate off fine. There are 2 connectors directly behind the HVAC controls. Neither of which seem to want to come out when I pull on them. I looked for little 'tabs' to depress as I pull out, but there does not seem to be any. There was no visible light connection either, but I did notice that the back of HVAC panel can probably be removed after loosening a few screws... might have to try that and see what I can come up with.
Those are cam over connectors.

The tab at the top hinges backwards ( look at the tab, you will see where the pivot point is at on the connector ).
Sorry didn't make a note of that in the last post, sure you got the center console trim panel back together already.

Thanks for the pic.. exactly what i'm looking at in my truck. I tried at lunch to depress the grey clips as shown in your pics which are on the back sides of the connectors, but neither would give at all. Is that all you did to remove them...? just press down hard and they would release?
Sorry to be such a pain!

They are cam over.
You pull on the tab at the top, and pivot them so they are perpendicular to the connector, and they release ( the cam is on the other side of the pivot, which is also used to pull it into the connector when you assemble them ).
Let me try this as a description :
The connector on the back of the HVAC control panel, pull the tab away from the HVAC panel ( towards the wire side of the connector ).
If it is not clear, let me know, and I will go take a picture in my truck of it.

Got it! Excellent instructions, thanks so much.
I was able to remove both connectors, and then reseat them. Turned the key to accessory power, and voila... my HVAC and Heated Seat sections are now fully illuminated again! Awesome stuff.. and surely saved me a bunch of cash.
Can't thank you enough.
Cheers!
