major electrical problem..headlights, wipers, interiors

sorry if this is gonna be long and a little hard to read but ill try to explain as best as possible

about 2 weeks ago realized my headlights werent nearly as bright as they should be, but the high beams work just as they should

nowas of a day or so ago...when i put my parking lights on the hreadlights turn on, stay on when in the headlight position but still pretty dim...and high beams still work as they should...when i go to turn them off they dont turn off...have to go back and forth a few times from auto to off and they finally go off

wipers also stopped workin as of 2 days ago and all interior lights are no lionger working...checked all fuses and such and everything is good....

bruaght it to the shop that does the majority of the work on mny truck and they got 3 hours into it and seem to think its a control module...any thaughts on this? and is this a delaer only fix or something that can be done without goin to the dealer...

any help would be greatly appriceated, winters around the corner and i need the truck for plowing
thanks

Check the Central Junction Box area up behind the dash for signs of water damage. This could extend to where the carpet is up on the firewall.

Some MY trucks have a problem with water leaking from the driver's side a pillar, and the GEM gets wet and strange things like the HVAC running after the key is out, radio staying on, and autolamp problems happen from this.

You can try a quick test if it is not raining, by turning on the Max HVAC on AC, at high temp, with the windows closed.

This will recirculate the hot air, using the AC to draw out moisture.
The other option is to run a space heater on the floor, pointing up under the dash on the driver's side, but this takes longer, and could be a problem if left unattended.

Sorry, my mistake ( and no you do not sound like an idiot ) I do short hand too much.

Generic Electronic Module.
It controls several items like intermittent wipers, the delay accessory relay, interior lamps, OTD window on the driver's side, etc.

It is bolted to the back of the central junction box ( aka CJB , cab fuse panel ).

Sorry about that, you have to watch me, I talk in short hand too much at times.

aight didnt get a chance to get in there with a heater or such but i did remove the plastic moulding that runs across the door opening and the kick panel on the drivers side...and its def damp in there and the up most part of the carpet is damp as well...so it seems like it would makes sense to what is causing my problems...

and as of today now my headlights work as they should and all dash/instrument lights work only thing not working properly now is the wipers and my passenger side blinker/brakelight..does this sound like it could be that problem and is now drying out?

hopefully tomorrow i am gonna give it a go

Could be, kind of hard to say which is which at this point, as far as the wipers go.

The blinker, you might try testing with the wheel all the way up, and all the way down on the tilt. This could be a connector pulling apart.

Common for the wires to/from the large connector at the base of the steering wheel column to tighten up, and start to pull apart.

Cure is to check the pins for discoloration, pull up slack on the truck harness side and wire tie the harness back into place, and reconnect the connector ( might have to zip tie it together if the connector locking tabs are broken )

Find a place to remove and reseal the windshield ( you don't have a power roof, do you ? ).

well tried to dry it out and nothing...

so i made an appointment with the stealer. and get a call back today.....they dont know whats wrong with it...how the **** can a dealer not now whats wrong with a truck they once sold...claim they got 4 hours into it and cant come up with a fix....

so when we got to pick it up i ask them about the gem module...they said for my truck that its not a dealer only install like the previous shop told me...and basically said that with my truck alot of times water leaks down the a pillar and gets into the module...so in short basically told me it could be my problem but didnt wanna fix it...

is this doable at home? my father is pretty mechanically inclined and from what i know its pretty easy to get too and straight forward

From the few members that did the swap themselves, they said it was easy, just time consuming.

It is unbolting the Fuse panel, then unbolting the GEM from the back, and working the connectors in between the 2 apart, and checking the pins in both sides of the connectors ( for green corrosion or discoloration )
