I have replaced my complete steering column in my 2001 F150 (4R70W) and gone with an Art Carr shifter. I am trying to figure out the wiring for a new OD switch. I have a copy of the wiring diagram in my album-

It is a little hard to see, but the OD switch is the Transmission Control Switch in the center of the diagram. There are 3 wires- a power wire coming from the top of the diagram, and 2 wires going to the PCM. One is from the switch to the PCM, and the other is to the indicator light from the PCM. The indicator light gets power through a 820 ohm resistor that is internal to the switch- you can see the zig-zag line from the left of the box to the lamp.

My specific question has to do with the 820ohm resistor inside the stock switch, going from the power wire to the indicator lamp.

Does anyone know if this is to protect/reduce the current for the indicator light, or if it is to protect the PCM? I was just going to run a small 12V indicator light connected to the stock wires which wouldn't need a resistor, but I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't risk doing any damage to my PCM.
