1998 remote entry system and perimeter alarm system

Hello
New here and have some questions. I have a 1998 F150 Supercab 4.6 It has 172,000 miles on it now and runs great! When I bought it there was a remote entry under back seat.( the key fob) Did not need any thing like that in the Wisconsin North woods but now am traveling. How can i tell if any security is installed? How can I tell if any remote is installed ? And if not is it possible to add this? Any help would be appreciated. I tried to email Sycoholic at sycoholic8@aol.com on this but the email came back undeliverable. I have no idea where to start. I do have fairly decent mechanical abilities and not afraid to work on these. We also have 1999 with only 57,000 miles on it. Again PLEASE help! I only have the owners manual that came with the truck
Thanks in advance I know the knowledge base here is beyond description!
Bob

Have you tried replacing the battery in the remote, and see if it works ?

The 97-99 owners manual did not show the programming, but a search in this forum would have produced these directions :

When I tried to add a new remote ( to have a total of 3 ) on my 2001 it took me 3 times to enter programming mode. I could have sworn all 3 times I did it the same way, but obviously the first 2, I did not have the timing sequence down.

If it does not enter programming mode with the confirm on the 1st try, give it another try.

If you want a full alarm, contact Travis at KCAutosound, he can get you an alarm with the wiring diagrams ready for install for a good price.

Crap, I need to read the PDF version better ( I got a F in reading comprehension ) .
The "take it to your dealer" on page 46 is about replacing lost transmitters.
Right below that is the same text only part about programming new ones ( both of PDF page 46 and top of page 47 ).

Thanks for pointing that out. I was quick scanning after the find of remote, and did not see the drawing they put in there for us dumb owners of 2001 MY trucks

- I didn't know I was helping that much really, comprehension isn't my strong suit either. I tend to read to fast most of the time lol.

Anyway, figured since I had a pic of that page from the owners guide in the arsenal, - posting it wouldn't hurt

BTW - I guess you can get the download @ http://www.motorcraft.com/

https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenan...ls/default.asp

Same docs, just different location from Ford.

Ok checked battery in remote it is good. I tried the instructions you gave no luck will not go into programming mode. I tried the autolock feature also no luck there either I hear something like a real at the bottom of the steering wheel when I tried any of these. Remote entry is ther a way to tell if it was installed to begin with. Also is there any electronics that control these features. Like I said new at this electronics stuff on cars but willing to try Again any help would be appreciated.

If memory serves me correctly, the 97-98 MY trucks did not use the RAP, or at least a 1:1 compatible module in place of the RAP.

So it could be in the same place, but I cannot be 100% sure about this on a 97-98 MY truck. Think 99& 00 were the RAP, and NOV-00 the RAP was changed to a CSM for the 01-03 MY trucks ( which is not interchangeable with the RAP )

You can try here.

Note parking brake to the left side of the picture.
Driver's side floor.

Looking up behind dash.
Left side of picture is the ratchet mech for the parking brake.

When you tried to enter programming mode, how many times did you try ?

BTW : PATS is only on the 99+ MY, with the digital odometer. If you have a mechanical odometer, you do not have PATS ( and have the small keys ).

Lost count but was in the truck over an hour so many times I have the mechanical speedometer so pats is out right how about a Remote anti-theft personality? Small keys ? do you mean ignition key? what do you mean by small key? ok looked up where you pointed nothing there. I have been reading other posts about the RAP and he said on a 2000 F150 to look behind left scuff plate I have some connections back there but nothing with as many connections as he said but three plugins there

If you read that thread.
https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...ml#post3884855

Located behind left side of dash.

That is where those pictures are pointing.

Note the order of trim removal to get to it :
1. Remove left front door scuff plate.
2. Remove left side trim plate. - Side of dash, to the left of the Central Junction Box ( aka CJB / cab fuse panel ).

When I said small key, I should have posted small key head ( that is a bit mroe correct statement ).

Smaller than this ( this is a PATS key )

I would take a guess that it is not installed if you tried that many variations of entering programming mode, and the area behind the dash is empty. Move on to Travis.
