Hmm...my interior fan isn't working on low?

And I just posted this morning.....

On my way home from work I discovered that the interior fan isn't working on low speed. 2,3, and 4 work fine.
I'll have to assume it's the switch.

How do I get the fan control switch out to test it?

I almost never use the highest speed, maybe I can move the wires to contacts that are working, and just use it as a three-speed fan.

Thanks for the help.

I would take a guess it is the blower motor resistor. Could be the switch itself, but that is a single module, nothing you can change on it.

The speed control does not have the resistance built into it, it selects the resistance in the blower motor resistor to change the speed.

Pull the blower motor resistor and check it across all the resistors.

Thanks Scully,
I printed a copy of the wiring diagram, very handy to have:thumbsup:.
Where is the blower motor resistor located?
Thnx, Marc

The thread I found says it is behind the glove box area.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...c-anybody.html

On the glove box, just push in the right side of it, to release the plastic bump stop, and it will drop down, out of the way to have a look.

In the EVTM, it shows as more so to the front of the inertia fuel shut off in the kick panel area.

I don't have one, else I would get a picture of it. A picture of the blower motor speed controller would do you no good.

BTW : If you want to troll the 2004-2008 album, have at it.

Scully,
It's knowledgable guys like you, taking the time to help others, that make this sight great. I checked out the "Blower Resistor" link above, and that is probably what it is.
Thanks, Marc
Local dealer- $35.33 (in stock)
Autozone- $22.00 (need to order), I'll go get the Motorcraft...

If you can do me a favor, when you get a chance to find it, can you take a picture of the process.

A write up in the Technical Articles / How To forum for the 2004-2008 MY trucks would help the other members here a lot in the future.

No need to write copious amounts of text, a picture is worth a thousand words, still holds true here, that is how I do mine.

That is why we are here, to help each other out

Thanks for asking this question! I have had my '04 for a little over 2 years and always wondered why the fan was so quiet when set to 1 or 2. It was so quiet because is was not on!

I read this thread this morning and broke out my trusty Haynes manual and low and behold... there is this blower motor resister.

It is located behind the glove box. It sits inside the air box (to keep it cool I assume). There are two screws holding it in and a plug on the back. I pulled it out and checked it with my multimeter and it was totally gone.

I would post some pics but they are in the manual and all I have is the camera on this netbook.

$27 at my semi-local (30 min drive) dealer and now I have all my fan speeds.

Thanks again for asking or I would still be stuck with speed 3 and 4 only. :D

A different dealer quoted $22.00 for the part, I'll be doing the repair some time this week after I pick it up. I'll try and post a "How-To" with pics...this one looks easy.

Ran out of time Sat. as the neighbors had their yearly drunk-fest.....:beers:

Had the same problem, fan only worked on highest setting. Checked out this forum, replaced the blower resistor behind the glove box and low and behold it worked. Thanks to everyone here with their insights..Thanks guys.
