head scratcher for the electrical pros.....
hi all..... this one might be long winded, but im really scratching my head trying to figure this out.
i just finished installing a crimestopper 1604 remote starter unit into a friends 2006 f150 lariat. well, in order to maintain the stock features such as perimiter lighting, etc, i have also installed a crimestopper RB1 remote box interface (this unit requires you to solder a factory key fob into this module, and whenever the remote starter unit sends a lock or unlock signal, it runs it through the factory key fob soldered into the RB1 module so its no different than pressing a factory remote).
well, the problem i am having is that everytime i lock or unlock the unit, it sends a double signal to the RB1 with factory fob. this is fine to deal with for the unlock, but it ALWAYS sounds the horn when i lock it (same as if you push the lock button twice on the factory fob).
after a lot of troubleshooting with crimestopper, we have determined that if i manually press the factory fob button, or send a short ground pulse from a jumper into the wire that connects the remote starter and the RB1, all works as normal. the problem is that the signal from the remote starter lasts for .75 seconds, and this causes the factory fob to get a second impulse. there is no way to change the setting any lower than the .75 seconds either.
we also tried to wire a 1k ohm resistor between the lock wire and 12v+, hoping that creating a controlled short to that wire would help to discharge the ground pulse faster which would shorten the signal going to the RB1 box. but, no luck there.
now, the strange thing is that i have installed the EXACT same set up before into my personal truck (2006 f150 XLT), and it works great, even with the .75second ground pulse from the remote starter.
so my main question is, is there any difference within the two trucks wiring (XLT vs Lariat) that would explain why the signal works for one, but not the other?
im out of ideas, and for now it is going to stay as is. its just a little annoying to always hear the horn honk when locking.
thanks for reading and any help offered !!! im wondering if SCULLY finds this and knows of anything......
