Problem with right rear taillight.

Hey guys,
I've got what I hope is a little problem and I hope you guys can help me out here. This morning when I was about to merge right I put on my signal and the thing starts to blink faster than normal so immediately I know that something was up with my right side lights. Sure enough my right taillight is not working, but here's the kicker, the only time it doesn't work is when I brake or make a signal, I didn't check to see whether or not it doesn't work when I reverse but I'm assuming it's that same. However, the right taillight comes on and works fine when I use my factory remote to lock and unlock the truck, when I lock it they blink and when I unlock it they come on. One other thing, when I made my signal this morning, I don't know if it was my imagination because it was early in the morning and i was still a little groggy, but I might have heard a pop, sort of at the same time I clicked my signal. So I checked the #2 fuse for the "Stop/Turn lamps, Brake on/off switch," but it was fine, and that's pretty much my situation.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

your taillight bulb is out...well halfway out

theres two filaments in the bulb, and most likely one of them broke

replace the bulb and you should be fine..

Oh, so is it because when I brake and make a signal the intensity of the light is too much for just one filament and needs two of the filaments to work? And one filament is sufficient enough for the light to work when I lock/unlock?

One more thing will i notice a difference in brightness between the new one and the left one that's still working fine? Should i just change both sides?

Just so im thinking correctly....

If you have your headlights on, the taillights work right?
And then if you press the brake pedal the light doesnt get brighter, or does it turn off completely?

Im pretty sure that one filament is for the Parking lights and one is for the brakelights/turnsignals

Man I'm sorry, you'll have to forgive my ignorance, I sort of got the concept of filaments wrong. But yes, it is as you said in that it is on when my headlights are on and it just doesn't work when I brake/signal, I just ran outside and checked it. When I was trying to diagnose the problem I didn't even think to try and see if it sill worked while the headlights were on.

Thank you very much for helping me sort out my problem.

Hey seriously dont worry about it, anything to do with wiring gets my head spinning lol. Ive had quite a few very long threads on here trying to work out some wiring issues and if it wasnt for some guys on here i probably wouldve gone nuts. Thats whats great about this site.

Anyway, im fairly certain now that your bulb is just out. Im pretty sure the 04+s have 2 screws in the taillights. So if you get a chance tomorrow pull the bulb out and you should be able to see the broken filament inside the bulb.
The replacement bulb # is 3157
