4X4 Lights Flashing, Ideas/Help!!

Hey guys,
I've got an 05 F150 lariat 5.4, 4 wheel drive. I noticed not too long ago, the 4x4 lights would randomly flash driving down the road. It seems like they would flash 3 times and then stay off. They did that again today. The only thing I've done to the truck that I guess could induce this is put an Edge Evolution on it, and hit some bumps (Could have knocked something loose)....Please let me know what yall think, Thanks!!

Without checking the release notes for your Tuner version, my 1st step would be to check the IWE system on the truck.

There is a good thread in the Technical Articles / How-To forum on IWE operation.

Checking for a vac leak is what I am thinking, just as a SWAG. I have not seen this one posted in the Electrical Forum, so maybe a search in the 2004-2008 Forum and the Transmission forum also might be a good idea.

The 4x4 light problems in this forum as centered around the 1997-2003 problems, focus on the 1997-1998 MYs, and it is usually a vac leak, or mechanical problem. I do not know if my correlation from the 1997-2003 MY issues would cross to your MY range, but that is where I am developing the SWAG from.

Take it for what it is worth.

Thanks for the input! After much research on this issue, I'm convinced its a shorted solenoid...When replacing it, will it suffice to just disconnect the lines at the wheels and let them drain any possible water that may be present? Thanks again for the help

Don't see why, but I really have no idea what you are going to get out of them.

I have a 4x2 myself. Aside from the 2 IWE threads in the Tech articles section, and threads I have scanned, I don't know much else on them.

I replaced the solenoid yesterday...I went ahead and disconnected the lines at the hubs like the TSB said and they were completely dry so I hooked everything back up and we shall see if that cured it.

Well, the lights came on tonight along with a new abs light and the parking brake light stayed on as I was pulling out of my apartment complex. So all 4 lights were on at the same time and then they went off. I'm wondering if the edge programmer has anything to do with it. I'm thinkin I might unplug it for the time being and see if anything comes back up. Any other ideas or suggestions??

I would try unplugging it, all 4 lights on at once is a little fishy for it to be an actual 'problem'...

I was reading somewhere on here that when the battery is starting to go, guages start acting up along with lights in the cluster, as well as the edge freezing up or goin blank. It is about time for a new battery, got the truck new in 05 and same battery...

Solution FOUND:::When starting the truck, allow time for the systems to initialize. This means DO NOT start the truck until the 4x4 lights turn off. I've been following this procedure for months and have yet to see the flashing lights show back up.
