Replacing Dash Bulbs

Hey Guys,

I just got finished replacing 5 burned out bulbs in my 98 F-150. It wasn't very difficult, but was a little time consuming. I had to take off most of the dash and remove plenty of 9/32s screw-in bolts. I took of the majority of the bolts with a small 9/32s wrench and/or ratchet. Some of the bolts were at awkward angles, so I had to use plyers to reach in there and twist them out. There was a section of the dash that I couldn't figure out how to remove completely. To the left of the steering wheel, there is a small dash section that holds the switch for the headlights. I took out a bolt at the top and right-hand side of this piece, but it did not want to come out. I have no idea what was keeping it on there. Due to not being able to remove this section, I couldn't fully remove the instrument cluster, which houses the burned out bulbs. I ended up having to remove three of the four bolts holding that section on, wedging a screwdriver behind it, and blindly reaching the bulbs to pull them out. The screwdriver is essential to creating enough space to get your hands down in there. My hands aren't huge, but they sure aren't tiny, so the extra space was most necessary. I located three bulbs behing the speedometer and odometer and replaced them. The other two were behind the climate controls in the center of the dash system. Those were very easy to replace. The bulbs were all #194 bulbs. I picked up 3 "2-packs" at AutoZone for about $3 apiece. I figured I'd share the info for anyone else who might have to do the same thing. Since its fresh in my memory, feel free to post any questions if you're dealing with the same/similar issue. I'll be happy to provide any further info to help you out.

Do a search here and you will find that there is a bolt behind the light switch holding that piece in. You need to remove the switch to get at it.

Thanks for letting me know. I figured there was something behind the light switch that was holding it on. I was not sure how to properly remove the light switch without breaking anything, so I passed on it. Fortunately, I was able to get the job done without that step.
