newb with 05 DD driver problems...help please

Hey guys, I'm new on here and am having alternator issues with a daily driver and need help. I have to use this thing to go to work...

The battery went dead about a week ago on my 05 F-150 (6cyl 4.2 work truck) so I go to Wal-Mart and get a new one fires right up so i figured it was just a bad battery after almost 4 years...but the new one went dead today and the truck quit.

I checked the out voltage on the large wire out of the alternator and there is 0 volts DC with it disconnected from the battery and engine running on a charger.

1. does this mean the alternator has quit?
2. do I have to replace the entire alternator or can the regulator be replaced?
3. Where is the best place to find either of these parts?

I called all of the local parts houses...carquest, autozone and Oreily none have anything and if they can get one it's very expensive...I don't really have the spare change on hand to spend the 240.00 bones they are asking....

HELP PLEASE!!!

Thanks in advance...

John
