I found this post in five minutes of looking. My 2003 F150 KRSC just started doing this. Plan to repair myself tomorrow. Your post is still helping 13 years later. Very cool. Many thanks.

Great repair advice. Take your time removing headlight control panel. Pry from left side and bottom only. Do not pry on faceplate. Do not allow trip reset peg to fall out of instrument panel with circuit board removed. I did and I lost the little grey rubber piece on the end of it with the carbon piece in it. Took me an hour to find it on the garage floor. Without this grey piece, the whole repair job is useless. Your display could be stuck on trip meter with no way to get back to displaying odometer. Outside of that, repair was successful!
