How about if I change out a 2003 F150 with the XL package. My truck doesn't have the tach and I would like to replace it with one that does but if it won't work or give me alot of problems, forget it. Any advise is much appreciated.

Thanks,

The electronics for the tach are in the same circuit board that contains the PATS RFID.

If you do the swap, your truck won't start.
Would require a PCM ID clear, and the erase all keys, and reprogram 2 keys.

This means it would be a trip to the dealer to do it.

cluster swap

[/I]I just did a swap yesterday on my 97 XLT. The original cluster had a tach on it. a week before all the gauges stopped working, but it still lit up with all the warning lights working as well. all fuses looked good. The cluster was also causing a battery drain every day, so I knew it had to be the dead cluster causing this mess. swapped it out with a cluster off a 1997 without a tach and plugged in and works just fine. I was also concerned with the replacement coming off a manual tranny and putting into my auto. just swapped out the gear selector and put it on the replacement.
Good as new!

I know I use this board to answer questions to help me fix my truck. These were some concerns I had so I thought I would post them to help someone out in the future.

Thank YOU!
